Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service 2011

Over 5,000 Volunteers Stepped up to Serve on MLK Day!
On the 25th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, over 5,000 volunteers stepped up on their day off to make it a day ON and serve in numerous agencies across the Commonwealth, volunteering over 18,000 hours of service!
Through support of the Volunteer Generation Fund, the Massachusetts Service Alliance provided $80,000 in mini-grants to 12 organizations to engage volunteers in meaningful service to honor Dr. King; in addition to these grantees, over 90 organizations participated in celebrating the King Day of Service.
There were volunteers in every region across Massachusetts from North Adams to Nantucket and every county in between! Volunteers assisted organizations in activities ranging from home weatherization to service-learning, financial literacy education to community park revitalization, and classroom renovation to health kit distribution.
