Conference Workshops

Whether leading organizations or volunteers, being one’s authentic self is the key to leadership success. For authentic leaders, building character and culture is a function of aligning their beliefs and behaviors with the principles of the organization. Organizations that foster authentic behavior are more likely to have engaged, enthusiastic, motivated employees and volunteers and psychologically safe cultures.

We are seeking a diverse group of workshop proposals and presenters that will share their approach to authentic leadership and the changes that have happened at their organizations as a result. We seek examples of changes that have transformed, in particular, volunteer programs to run more effectively. This is an opportunity for innovative thinkers to share their experience and models of success with the service and volunteerism sector in Massachusetts and with sector leaders who are seeking fresh ideas and redefined best practices for mission driven service in an ever-changing environment.

2024 Themes

We especially welcome proposals that address one or more of the following themes:

  • Engaging Volunteer Leaders
  • Engaging Youth in Service and/or Service-Learning
  • Working with Older Adult Volunteers and/or Skill-Based Volunteers
  • Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in Volunteerism
  • Redefining Volunteerism for the Future

(We will also consider innovative and relevant presentation ideas that are not necessarily listed above.)

What is the 2024 Massachusetts Conference on Volunteerism?

The Massachusetts Conference on Volunteerism is a biannual conference that attracts professionals from across the Commonwealth including volunteer coordinators, program managers and directors from nonprofit, corporate and government agencies, community, or student engagement professionals, as well as national/state service members. All come to develop their personal and professional skills, learn new ideas, network with peers and build the capacity of their organizations.

This year, Christal M. Cherry, The Board Pro’s Principal and CEO, will be our keynote speaker. Cherry is a nationally recognized  nonprofit board consultant and certified leadership coach. With over 25 years in the nonprofit sector, she has supported higher education institutions, human services organizations, and faith based missions.
