2026 Conference Theme:
Galvanizing Civic Leadership in Every Community

Civic leadership is the driving force behind strong, resilient, and connected communities.

As volunteerism continues to evolve, leadership is no longer confined to titles alone. Volunteers, staff, board members, and community partners all play a vital role in shaping inclusive and impactful civic engagement.

For the 2026 Massachusetts Conference on Volunteerism, we are seeking a diverse range of proposals that reflect how organizations and communities across the Commonwealth are cultivating civic leadership, elevating community voice, and mobilizing people toward meaningful service and action.

We invite presenters to share practical strategies, emerging models, lessons learned, and real-world examples that demonstrate how civic leadership is being activated and sustained, especially in ways that are equitable, collaborative, and responsive to community needs.

Sessions may explore topics such as:

  • Developing civic leadership at the grassroots or organizational level
  • Engaging volunteers as leaders, advocates, and changemakers
  • Youth, intergenerational, or skills-based civic engagement
  • Equity-centered approaches to volunteerism and community leadership
  • Rethinking volunteerism and civic engagement for today’s civic landscape

(Innovative and relevant proposals that do not fit neatly into these examples are strongly encouraged.)

What is the 2026 Massachusetts Conference on Volunteerism?

The Massachusetts Conference on Volunteerism, convened by the Massachusetts Service Alliance, brings together nonprofits, public agencies, community changemakers, and civic leaders from across the Commonwealth every two years for a full day of inspiration, professional development, and connection.

Through shared learning, networking, and collaboration, the conference strengthens Massachusetts’ collective ability to engage Bay Staters in meaningful volunteerism, service, and civic leadership.

This year, the conference will be held at the DCU Center in Worcester, MA on May 21, 2026.
